Bangkok: Soi Lizard King

The reception here in SE Asia has been fantastic.  I spoke last night to a completely full house at the Siam Society.  I opened with a discussion of illegal wildlife trade statistics but I needn’t have bothered.  I stopped for a beer before my talk and looked out the window to see a beggar walking the street with a baby elephant in tow.  On my way to the talk I passed the Shark’s Fin restaurant, with a gigantic fin in the window.  It is easy to consider exploitation of wildlife a fringe issue, and then you come to a center of biodiversity like Thailand and it is the elephant in the room.

This one is coming up next Thursday at Times in Kuala Lumpur.  I just got the poster for it and thought I would put it up.
