Garters Exposed in St. Paul

They like to show their garters in St. Paul.  Garter snakes, that is.  Ha.  Ha.  I didn’t see any myself, but Dave DeWitt, VP of the Minn Herp Society, told me he’s seen one already.  It’s amazing how far north reptiles extend.

What a great visit my trip to the Minn Herp Society turned out to be.  Around 100 people came out.  Along with my talk, they had a reptile rescue going for people to take care of abandoned or poorly kept reptiles and a fundraising raffle.  This was their monthly meeting and I wish more herp societies were out there to exchange ideas and perspective they way they do in St. Paul.

I spoke for about an hour and after went out for beer and food with some of the society members.  I was shocked at the level of scholarship.  In no time we were talking New Caledonian geckoes and I found myself with new friends telling me about people I knew in Baton Rouge, Villanova, London, Australia, and on.  It is a very small world, if you let it be.

Here’s a shot of the founding members of the Minn Herp Society.
