Two Upcoming Talks

Friday, June 5th, 2009

I’ll be speaking Wednesday June 17 at a brown bag lunch entitled Extinction, Incorporated sponsored by the DC Bar Association and the Environmental Law Institute.  You don’t have to be a member of either org. to come.  The talk will be held at Sidley & Austin, 1501 K St.  Here is the registration info.  I used to attend alot of these luncheons on international trade when I worked in Washington and it is nice to be coming home again after so many years. Best of all, I’ll be introduced by John Webb, Asst. Section Chief, Environmental Crimes Section, Dept. of Justice.  Those in the wildlife community know John’s name.  He is a warrior, and to hear him is reason enough to come out.

I am also speaking to the US Fish & Wildlife Service this Monday, June 8.  This is the annual Wildlife Inspector in-service training held at the National Conservation Training Center in West Virginia.  It is an honor to be invited to talk to our country’s wildlife inspectors, our first line of defense against illegal trafficking.  I spent some long hours in the NCTC library researching USFWS history for The Lizard King (with the generous help of historian Mark Madison) and am pleased to be going back to this beautiful facility.
